Animal Senses and Memory, Text-Analysis One-Pagers, and more!

  In this lesson, students applied what they have learned about how animals use their perceptions and memories to guide their actions to make predictions, based on evidence, about which insects birds will learn to avoid most quickly. Congratulations to our Kindness Award recipient from last week! During our Read and Respond this week, we were given a challenge from Mrs. C: If every read and respond sentence begins with a capital and ends with punctuation, we will earn 20 poof balls for our class "Put Up Jar." The kids will find out on Monday if we did it. We will earn one poof ball for each student's packet that is done 4th grade style with correct capitalization and punctuation. Talk about MOTIVATION and a huge game changer! We enjoyed a beautiful day outside this week for our "break." We finished our second nonfiction book club book this week. Chicago History Museum, Optical Illusions, and Book Clubs!

Field Trip Fun! We are building our background knowledge as we read about eye structures in humans and animals. We made observations on different types of insects. We will use this information next week in Science! Congratulations to our grit award recipient! We are reading our new book club books! We will be applying the skills we learn in class during our whole group lessons on these books with partners and independently. In Science, we made observations on different optical illusions. First, we tried to answer the question without using any tools other than our eyes. Then, we used rulers, pencils, and notecards to make observations to answer the questions for each illusion. In math, we worked in teams to answer a big question using only 3 clues. We worked on asking questions like what do we need to know and what information do we have to help us in the planning process as we answer multi-step word problems.
